The Pied Bull Chester
The Pied Bull is Chester’s oldest coaching house. The building dates back to the 11th Century when it was the official residence of the Recorder of Chester. Situated within the walls of the historic Roman City of Chester, The Pied Bull hotel offers the perfect location for your next stay in the city. Reputed to be the oldest licensed house in Chester, the pub and hotel dates back to 1155. Today, the interior continues to reflect its distinctive heritage, still housing an original handmade staircase dating from 1533.
The bar area is kept sympathetic to the heritage of the building serving fine real ales from our on-site microbrewery as well as regularly changing guest beers from the local area and from all over the UK. They offer a 10% discount on all real ales to CAMRA members with a valid membership card.
Whether it be a gin tasting platter in the beer garden or a real ale in our cosy pub area, our drinks range is designed to complement every season. Our menu consists of a wide range of wines, draught beers, bottled beers and both home brewed and guest real ales. All of this is accompanied by a vast range of spirits including a selection of malt whiskey from all over Scotland and over 30 gins.
The Pub also has 31 bedrooms to offer the perfect way to end your evening in the historic city of Chester. We have a range of rooms to suite your stay, whether you are after a family room or a luxurious suite to celebrate a special occasion in the city.
The Pied Bull Chester Menu
At The Pied Bull we serve popular traditional British fayre and speciality dishes. We prepare everything fresh and our team of chefs strive to produce the most delectable homemade dishes. Where possible we purchase local produce, including supporting local independent business right on our street. Our grain from the brewery is even fed to livestock- nothing goes to waste! What’s more, our award-winning Pied Bull ales are an added ingredient to many of our dishes.
Whether you’re after a light bite or a 3-course meal there’s plenty to tempt your appetite.
The Pied Bull is proud to have the only micro-brewery within the City Walls of Chester. Our keg and cask beers are all hand crafted by our master brewer who selects hops and malts from all over the world to create a range of stunning beers that cover all types of real ale. From traditional bitters, Pale ales, IPAs, Red ales and Porters, we’re sure you’ll find something to wet your whistle!
As with most of the older buildings in Chester, the Pied Bull is rumoured to be home to several ghosts and has been visited by several renowned mediums hoping to make contact with these most unusual guests.
