Directions to Fernlea Cottage Bed & Breakfast
From the North
You need to get to the A55 outer ring road which runs around Chester, taking either:
M53 (south) from Liverpool (toll tunnels), or:
M6 to J20, followed by the M56 (westbound) then the M53 following signs for Chester & North Wales.
Follow signs for M53 / A55 Chester and North Wales (the M53 turns into the A55 west of Chester)
Leave the A55 at the junction with the A51, taking the 3rd exit at the roundabout above the motorway, and following signs for Chester and the A41 (Whitchurch). Make sure you stay in the left lane as you leave the roundabout.
There is a set of traffic lights very shortly after leaving the roundabout from the A55 – turn left at these (there is a filter lane), following signs for A41 (Whitchurch).
Carry on along the dual carriageway for about 1/2 mile. Stay in the left hand lane until you come to a large roundabout just after a pedestrian crossing. Take the 1st exit and turn left at the roundabout, following signs for A41 (Whitchurch).
From Wales
Take the A55 North Wales Expressway to Chester. Follow ring road around Chester, and take the sliproad for the A41 (south), following signs for A41 (Whitchurch).
The sliproad is quite long, and eventually comes to a large roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout, taking the 4th exit and following signs for A41 (Whitchurch).
From Chester via the A41
Stay on the A41 through the villages of Rowton and Waverton, following signs for Whitchurch.
The road eventually straightens out and you leave the houses behind. You’ll pass the Black Dog Pub on your right – about 2 miles after the pub, turn left onto Chester Road, following signs for Gatesheath and Tattenhall. (There is a turn to the right for Bruera just before you turn left, so that you know when to look out for your turning.)
Fernlea Cottage is the first house on the right-hand side. The entrance to the drive is closest to the main road – there’s a sign at the entrance.
There is a security light if you arrive after dark, and the door is at the front of the cottage in the middle.
From the South via the A41
Take the M6 north from Birmingham, leaving at J10a for the M54 and following signs for Telford and Mid Wales.
Stay on the M54 for about 11 miles, leaving at J3. Take the 3rd exit at the overhead roundabout, taking the A41 (North) and following signs for Newport and Whitchurch.
Stay on the A41 for just over 40 miles – it’ll take about 50 – 60 minutes. You’ll bypass Newport and Whitchurch. After Whitchurch, follow signs for Chester.
You’ll cross the A534 at a roundabout with a garage on the left hand side. About 4 miles after this is the village of Milton Green, with a car dealer on the left hand side.
After Milton Green there is straight stretch of road, and you enter a 50 mph limit at the end of this stretch. Take the right hand turn onto Chester Road immediately after the speed limit signs.
Fernlea Cottage is the first house on the right-hand side. The entrance to the drive is closest to the main road – there’s a sign at the entrance.
There is a security light if you arrive after dark, and the door is at the front of the cottage in the middle.
