Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre is one of the country’s best-loved open air theatres. The sounds of popping corks, picnics unpacked and happy audiences is the defining sound of Chester’s summer.
It is a purpose-built venue with an eight-week annual summer repertory season. Founded in 2010 by local arts producer Storyhouse, it is the only full-time, site-specific professional open-air theatre company outside London. The company produces all its work in-house under its Artistic Director, Alex Clifton.
Food and Drink
Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre is the perfect spot for a picnic (either before or during the performance).
The Theatre Bar can sell you treats and snacks as well as wine, juices, prosecco, summer drinks and tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Can I drink alcohol in the theatre?
Yes you can, you can either buy from the theatre bar, or bring your own.

Grosvenor Park is located in the heart of Chester city centre. For your sat navs, use postcode CH1 1QQ (Vicars Lane). You can also follow the AA Road Signs to Open Air Theatre.
There are a number of major car parks, located within a short walking distance. Local, regional and national train services all run from Chester Station, which is a 10 minute walk away. And, Chester Bus Station is also just a short walk away.
Parking
For parking the nearest car park is the NCP at Pepper Street (follow the AA Road signs for parking) Please note that this car park closes at 11pm, however if there is any delay to performance times they will stay open to accommodate theatregoers, so you don’t need to worry if that happens. Otherwise please do make your way to the car park immediately after the show. Disabled parking is available at the NCP Pepper Street.
If you use others car parks then please check closing times as in the event of rain delay the finish time may be a little later. If using the Newgate car park (Grosvenor Shopping Centre) then evening access is via the car ramp. Otherwise street parking is available at night a few minutes walk away. FREE parking is available after 3pm at several local authority run car parks (including Market Car Park).
